It was the second-highest grossing Bollywood film of 1951 (after "Awara"). The film catapulted Nitin Bose into Hindi film directing; he went on to make "Aar Paar" (1954), "Pyaasa" (1956) and "Kaagaz Ke Phool" (1959). Ishq-e-Bewafa is a story of love and affection turning into hatred and revenge. Latika (Nimmi), a young girl, is living with her grandfather Bhavani Prasad (Mubarak). Latika's mother left them alone to go to another city to earn money. But she never returned. Latika's grandfather raised her lovingly and tirelessly. He was the only source of Latika's happiness. Bhavani Prasad, being an honest person, had to face many problems including monetary issues. So he decides to mortgage his house which he was not willing at first but later because of circumstances gives in . His loan officer does not accept his house for mortgage because the wall has cracks that require immediate attention until then they will keep his deed in store room. A young man comes in contact with Latika, both of them get attracted to each other. The young man goes to Latika's house on the same day that her grandfather vows on her. The young man sees the crack in the wall and informs his boss that this kind of weak wall can't handle stress and can fall anytime soon. His boss gets angry on knowing about it and fires him. With no job now, he goes away from Latika's life forever. Latika's grandfather decides to fix the wall; he sells his silver utensils (which people used to call it 'Thal' (bowl)) which is the only valuable thing they had left apart from some clothes, grain, etc. He meets a man who offers to pay him more for this utensil which is more than its worth. Therefore, he gets involved in petty issues and money matters. He also meets a woman named Premnath (Salma), the only friend of Latika's mother. Premnath, with her money, helped them when they were in need. One day Premnath comes to meet Latika's father (Shyama) and tells him about Latika and her grandfather and the auction of their house in which they will be forced to leave everything they knew and loved including priceless things like silver utensils and grains if they want to save them from the auction. 8eeb4e9f32 10
